Music

Saint James United church is proud to have a very active music program. Currently, we have 13 singers in our SATB choir, and all-ages handbell choir, and the Sunshine singers (youth choir).

The senior choir rehearses every Wednesday at 7:15pm (Sept.-June) and presents its annual Christmas Cantata the third Sunday in advent. New singers are always welcome – some people in our choir are music readers but not everyone. A sense of humour is required as we always have some good laughs at choir practice. The choir also provides music for services at Carleton Manor. Both the handbells and Sunshine singers meet periodically after church to prepare special music. The Sunshine Singers are ages 3-10 and the handbell choir welcomes anyone regardless of age or experience. Many of the “ding-a-lings” in this group (as the like to call themselves) have learned the basics of reading music by playing in the handbell choir. Our church believes that music is an important part of worship and supports the music programs via a yearly budget and part-time staff position.

If you would like to be involved with music-making at Saint James, we’d love to hear from you. We also welcome instrumentalists or vocalists who like to perform occasionally but can’t committ to a weekly rehearsal. To get in touch, call Amy Anderson (Music Director) are 328-2020 or contact Mary at the church office, 328-6114.
